A Straight Talk To The Young Black Male

You know - at (70) I've hung around long enough to live a respected three-score-and-ten years. During my venture through life, I've manages to garner a bit of wisdom. What I'm endeavoring with this publication, is to pass on some of that wisdom to young black males, actually, all young males, so that they might not make the same mistakes I had. Please understand that I'm not a professional counselor, and don't pretend to have all the answers to the many problems plaguing our youth, but I see youngsters making mistakes all the time, and I only want to help in my small way. I do know that when I do offer advice to young men, they always say, "You know - unk," they call me uncle, "You're right." Of course, the advice I offer doesn't always stick, and change their lives overnight, but at least I've pointed out a mature, experienced, prospective. Between these covers I will discuss such subjects as why and how to treat others, how to listen to your first mind, the value of honesty, why to avoid gangs, the tragedy of youth suicide, perseverance, respect, and many more subjects. My hope is to talk to youngsters as if a trusted father. I'm hoping that, maybe, a few who read this collection of loosely connected thoughts might think about subjects they may not have previously pondered - maybe discover a solution to a problem they might be encountering.
