The evil of war

In the twelfth century Barcelona, John Roses tells the story of his father, Marc. It is the time of King James I, who spent his life conquering Muslim territories and laid the foundations of Barcelona as a great city dedicated to commerce in the Mediterranean Sea. Marc Roses is the cook of a hostel on Broad Street, a family inn, and is in love with Ada, but his rival, Mau de Riera i del Tesor, who is the son of an important Baron, falsely accuses him of a series of horrible murders. Marc will fight for his love and also fight in the war for the conquest of Majorca, at the time under Muslim rule. After the war, he will strive to make the truth prevail and help the Albigensian Christians, who are also under persecution. But his failures will last until the end. Marc Roses suffers for the love of his life, for the evil of war and as a result of the misunderstanding of his fellow citizens in the Barcelona of the Middle Ages, but he endures everything until the last page of this exciting story told by his son John. Pau Faner is a Minorcan writer born and living in the Balearic Islands, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, the old Mare Nostrum of the Romans. He has published about forty narrative works -novels and short stories- and won the best literary awards in his country.
