Hero Tales and Legends of the Rhine by Lewis Spence (1874-1955) was published in 1915. Unlike other books this volume has taken only the purest form of the tales and not relied on translations. The author has tried to retain much of the atmosphere of mystery dear to the German heart and a true conception of the spirit of German legend. The table of contents includes Topographical and historical, The Rhine in folklore and literature, Cleves to the Loewenburg, Drachenfels to Rheinstein, Falkenburg to Auerbach, Worms and the Nibelungenlied, and Heidelberg to Saeckingen.
