The world is about to be destroyed by a killer asteroid, and while NASA monitors the approach from outer space of Object DT-1-20-17, America braces for impact. In these final days before Armageddon, the forces of unrest are hastening the disintegration of the United States along familiar social, political and economic fault lines. Now comes Anselmo Battersatt, the ultra-liberal political icon revered by legions of addlepated followers who becomes the obsessive focus, and ultimate converging point, of an unlikely cast of losers, misfits, mischief makers and flat-out whackjobs. Like Agent Jones, the reefer-puffing Man in Black. Or Wally Lewellyn, a transvestite pistolero who's packing in more ways than one. Or Tawny Mullagah, the baby-crazy call girl on a mission to get herself knocked up by everybody's favorite guru. As American society careens toward the brink of disaster, one man poses as its savior. But will any of it matter, with DT-1-20-17 on its collision course with our world?
