Different

Ashima is familiar with change. She had to move from her home in North Carolina to Virginia, a foreign place where she doesn't know anybody. She had to leave all of her relatives, including her loving grandmother. She has always had to change herself to what others desired out of her, never speaking up but talking plenty. All Ashima wants is a place to belong in this new place she has to call home, but she finds herself inspired to make a change in her community- something she will have to fight. A novel written in verse, Different is about a young girl struggling to find her place in the world and how, along with family and friends, she learns the power of voicing her opinions.
